October With so much happening it has been difficult to keep this up to date. Over the last few Months Truckersworld has made massive strides in becoming more recognised within the Industry and is slowly becoming a voice for the drivers in the UK. We are more than pleased to be talking on far better terms with the FTA and RHA hopefully this can only benefit our aims at improving our working lives and bringing about better facilities for us all. I will be attending the RHA Security committee meeting later this month and will be included in all future meetings allowing a voice for drivers to be heard and allowing us to pass on more information on the activities of the RHA. The Truckersworld Truck Theft Text Alert (TTTA) is now up and running again thanks to the FTA, after a meeting that was brought about by them with the Head of the ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) we were able to show how this could benefit in beating Truck Crime and will be sponsored in its first year by the FTA and approved and endorsed by the ACPO. Now it is up to the Companies to use it, only then can we be sure of the benefits and continue in the future to beat the criminals and make overnight stops just a little safer. On this point I am awaiting a research paper from the DfT on our proposals to open up “Park & Rides” as secure overnight truck stops. I have been informed that the research is in its final stages and should be sent out to me soon. Park and Rides are the obvious solution to the problem of not having enough safe parking, most are fenced and on the out skirts of towns, easily accessible and convenient. At a small cost decent facilities could be added to them as a franchise for extra income to the towns and so suits all concerned. Only recently we have been informed that the CVEU (Commercial Vehicle Education Unit) is to no longer receive funding from the TFL. This is in Truckersworld opinion a vital unit run by the Police and have been involved in educating cyclist on dangers around HGVs and have to date visited over 250 Companies to offer advice on safe running vehicles in relation to Tacho’s and driver hour rules. Plus the introduction of the Stammtisch to be able to talk directly to drivers. All the Officers are highly trained and prefer an educational approach rather than enforcement. Far more about the CVEU can be read on the forum, but to try and influence the TFL to re-consider we have now set up an online petition to allow comment and signatures in favour of the unit continuing. Plenty of serious subjects and issues for T/W to be handling, but just as important is bringing drivers together on a social footing. So the next T/W Get-together is planned for March 2010, an evening of pleasure, meeting fellow comrades and having a drink together. The Evening will be in a top class hotel with private bar and function room, Disco and Live entertainment and plenty of nosh by means of a buffet to keep our strength up. Most importantly it is FREE to members of T/W Just pay for a hotel room turn up and enjoy the evening with partners, unfortunately drinks are not free so some spending money is needed. We are continuing to talk to many other groups in bringing about change, slowly we are getting a hearing and being listened to, we can only hope that these talks will bring about action. Only with your support can we continue to build on this and continue to improve, take a trip to our interactive forum which is the back bone of T/W. Register and join in the various debates and discussions and let us hear your views and opinions. The power in numbers can help in our talks with other parties. The forum is far more than just this, it allows for a bit of fun, lots of help and advice and a regular posting of latest events and happenings and even a competition to keep everyone amused. Hope to see you on there soon. Drive Safe
