June/July On the 3rd June the Truckersworld Lobby Team travelled to Westminster for a further meeting with Shadow Transport Ministers. The meeting lasted a couple of hours and allowed us to go further into depth about our proposals to open up the many “Park & Rides” as secure overnight Lorry Parks and a full presentation was submitted to show the viability and need for this. With the increase in Truck Crime it became more apparent to the urgency and Ministers will hopefully consider this further and come back to us. All the information and reply from the Shadow Ministers are on our forum at:- http://forum.truckersworld.co.uk The DCPC continues to receive signatures to our protest against the introduction of this badly thought out expense to drivers. We are in contact with The JAUPT to try and find a solution to the problem. Thousands of Drivers who are self employed or work for the many Agencies will have to find their own training at their expense and not all will consider the extra cost every five years to continue in this profession and I am already receiving contact from drivers leaving the Industry for good. Unfortunately Truckersworld seem to be the only site that are protesting due to the fact that others can see a way of making money and so have taken it on board without considering the outcome to drivers, i.e. they consider profit before the driver. As Truckersworld is a free site and operates solely for the benefit of the driver we will continue to protest. Another forum for drivers now receiving better ratings and growing at a steady pace is The LDF (the lorry drivers forum) We are pleased to be able to work closely together and support each other. Truckersworld continues to be the main campaigning website for drivers but The LDF offers a bit more banter and less PC controlled giving more freedom of speech. Together we can both offer something for all drivers. Take a look;- http://www.thelorrydriversforum.com I have been contacted by the BBC on a couple of occasions now as they have picked up on the increase in Truck Crime and after talking to they are starting to realise how big the problems is. I have done a days filming for the new BBC1 Series “Cars, Cops and Criminals” and this will involve an hour’s episode on freight crime. It is to be shown later this year and will hopefully make the viewing public more aware of our problems. I have also been interviewed by the BBC Look North along with other parties and this will be shown the week commencing 26th July All publicity helps to put our problems and issues forward to the public and the aim is to receive some support from them in our fight to get proper facilities like overnight parking. Truckersworld has also decided to try and tackle some of the problems in relation to working for the many Agencies. One of our Lobby Team members who are vastly experienced on this side of our profession will be contacting certain people and pushing for better rules and regulations that govern them. Information from you is vital to make this possible and make our point so if you work for agencies now or have done in the past and have had problems concerning either wages or the working conditions then please go to our forum and add it to the growing comments on there. A forum has been specifically set up for this, and as with all the activity on Truckersworld everything is free. Far too much has been happening over these 2 Months to be able to put on here, but anything that we do or is of concern to drivers is on our interactive forum. Hope to see you on there soon and join in with the many topics of interest. http://forum.truckersworld.co.uk
