Hoping you all have a healthy and prosperous 2009.

Truckersworld has now received a reply from the Shadow Transport Ministers in response to our meeting on the 10th December and it contained some interesting points to take forward this year. The full reply can be read on the forum, but this is the important part of the reply:-

With regard to the CPC, I listened carefully to the detailed points that you made on the impact of the qualification both in terms of the cost to individual drivers and the significant administrative problems that would seriously undermine its effectiveness. As I made clear in the meeting, the Shadow Transport team has further work to do before committing to a course of action on the CPC, and this work is still ongoing. Your input would of course be highly valued. At the meeting, I was particularly interested in our discussion about truck crime and secure overnight parking. I agreed to speak to the Shadow DCLG team to raise the issue of opening up park and ride spaces, currently locked at night, to provide well lit and secure lorry parking. Given the changes in the Shadow DCLG team, I will need to find time with Caroline Spelman, however once this meeting has taken place I will keep you abreast of the outcome. I was struck by your claims that what was particularly lacking from the provision of secure parking was leadership. As I made clear at the meeting, it is the role of private organisations to pay for the provision of safe parking for their cargo and staff, however I agree with you that where government has a role is in bringing disparate groups together. I am therefore keen to hold a symposium in a couple of months, after speaking to Caroline, which brings together the key figures in the road freight industry, local government and the Conservative party. I hope that by holding such a meeting we can agree on practical ways forward which will make drivers and their goods safer.

Truckersworld is keeping in contact with the DfT and will now also be keeping in contact with Shadow Ministers and hope to be involved with the meetings they hope to set up in the near future.

Plans are now being finalised for the next get-together to be held in Skegness at The Savoy Hotel, going by the replies on the forum then more will be attending this year and it looks all set to be another good evening.

The end of January will see a few changes to the forum and website to keep us on track at improving what we can offer drivers, some changes will not be noticeable but keep the site at the top.

The Truckersworld Protest over the introduction of the CPC is gaining strength daily and we hope by June to be able to present to Government just how much this new legislation is see as a insult and a waste of money to our profession. Our aim is not to stop continuing learning and improving the standard of driving and safety but to ensure it is properly implemented and only by protesting the CPC in its current format can we hope to bring about change, there are so many flaws in the syllabus that someone must look and lsten to what is being said before it is too late.

As always Truckersworld is growing in numbers and strength with the site attracting over 53million hits a year. We would like you to join us and become a part of our community, we can only try and represent the voice of the driver if you air your views and tell us the problems. This can easily be done by joining in all the debates and discussions on the interactive forum, and of course it is all free and confidental.
