The first thing that must be put into the December news is to wish everyone a very merry christmas and a happy and prosperous new year.

On December 10th the Truckersworld Lobby Team travelled to Westminster to meet with the Shadow DfT in an effort to continue to bring forward the problems within our profession. A very good meeting took place and a full report is now on the forum for all to read. points of discussion on the agenda were the Driver CPC, Overnight Secure Lorry Parking, Security, Truck Crime, Cabatage Rules, Foreign Drivers and Vehicles and other issues of importance. This again has allowed for a door to be opened to include Drivers into consultations and talks about their future working lives, we are now in talks with both major political parties, and have gained the respect to be consulted on any new issues and to take forward talks on improving things for our health, safety and welfare.

The last few Months Truckersworld has attempted in vain to get the URTU onto our forum to talk to drivers. Me and many members of truckersworld still believe there is a place for a strong drivers union that will represent our problems and fight for our needs. I offered the opportunity to the URTU to put forward their plans and outlook on the future to attract more members and give them the strength in numbers to battle on our behalf. Unfortunately all our attempts to get these talks brought onto the forum have failed and I consider they have lost an opportunity to express what they can offer and gain more driver membership. If as drivers we cannot see what they have done or are doing in the future then to support them becomes more difficult. They must open their doors of communication to gain the support and backing if they want the power in numbers to take our issues forward. My offer of an open forum for these talks is always available.

In the New Year our next aim will be for a further meeting with both political parties to continue to push forward our issues and ensure they know the views of drivers in the UK, if you would like to add an opinion to these debates then please register free of charge on the interactive forum and join in the discussions. Also in the New Year Truckersworld is looking at setting up a sponsorship fund for one of the possible 2012 olympic contenders. A valued Member of Truckersworld and the Mother of a young man who inspires all youngsters to work hard to fulfil their dreams deserves our support, the aim is to get drivers to just pledge £1 or £2 a Month into a fund for his ongoing expenses and new equipment as the cost spiral as his performances improve. Getting grants at this stage is difficult, so hopefully we can help. Would you like to offer your help to one of our elete athletes and watch him with pride in the olympics knowing you gave him the support to continue with his aims. Look on the forum for more information and details of how your help is required. 2009 looks like it could be a very difficult year for some of our colleagues struggling to find work and keep the bread on the table, plus with more people struggling to make a living Truck Crime seems to be reaching new highs, with fuel tanks being emptied, hijacking and thefts increasing on a monthly basis, so please be careful out there. Your Health and Welfare is far more important than a piece of metal that can be replaced.

Please join us on our interactive forum as there is so much more happening on Truckersworld than I can write on this news page, you will be made very welcome and your views and opinions bring together a untiy of strength in drivers. Have a fantastic xmas and hope we can all meet at varying venues in the New Year or have a chat n the forum.
