I have recently received a reply back from the DfT after requesting a meeting with them to discuss our issues and put forward proposals. A part of this reply stated; -

"Quote" The Highays Agency and DfT are considering undertaking a national lorry parking study. The objective of the study, which would take two years to complete would be to develop, for the first time and in depth understanding of the current and future demand for lorry parking.

Now I consider that this is no good to us at all and it is time that this Government realised that there is a problem to overnight secure parking now, and needs Government intervention to make our welfare and safety at night a priority. I will be contacting them again in reply and specify the urgency required, showing more hijackings and thefts, plus with the closures of more truckstops then the situation is getting worse. It is time to stop talking and making more enquiries and acting to bring about change, Truckersworld Lobby Team are ready to travel to the doors of Government and propose a way forward and improve our overnight security, all they need do is give us an hour of their time to listen.

There is much talk on the Forum about the Conference, and with me having to make a decision next month to go ahead or cancel, things are not looking too good. Much interest has been shown by the Industry but Drivers are failing to show their support and put “bums on seats” This is an opportunity to show a united front and talk and question those in power to bring about change. Support it or lose the chance to have your say, One day of work and at very little cost could just be the start of something a lot bigger.

Visit the forum this Month and look for a thread put on there by me:- “Now is the time!!!!” It is asking you to tell us how you see Truckersworld in the future, anything new you would like to see or improvements to the way it is run. I still like to think the Forum is Yours, somewhere to talk to colleagues, ask advice and receive help, gossip and talk about your day, and read up to date information, plus the many other aspects of a good forum. Go there now Register and join the hundreds of others that frequent it daily, and most importantly to us so we know what you want.

A new year is fastly approaching and we need to keep moving forward, contacting people, talking to people who will listen and bring about change that we rightly deserve. The article I had printed in the Gaurdian, Read it here: - http://money.guardian.co.uk/workweekly/story/0,,2164482,00.html Allowed a chance for a few more to read what our day is all about and hopefully might get just a few more car drivers to give us some room and respect. We have to use every opportunity to get across to the public, our way of life and the problems involved and hope that we can bring them on side and help to make our daily work on the roads just that little bit better. I will use the media at every opportunity. More next month. Please continue to visit the site and join in on the forum, "It is good to talk" .
